Today, October 14th, roughly 80-90 4th and 5th grade students from Southwest Baltimore Charter School are scheduled to take a class trip to Occupy Baltimore. The students, currently studying civil rights and the first amendment, will be participating in a mock general assembly to foster understanding of what direct democracy looks like, and how Occupy Baltimore is using the general assemblies to further trust and community building in decision making. Occupy Baltimore participants will be leading workshops with the students, explaining the committee structure by which Occupy Baltimore has been operating. Afterwards, students will break out into committee groups to develop ideas of how they would organize their own occupation.
